Dilshod Z. Zikiryakhodjaev

Education

In 1972, Pr. Zikiryakhodjaev graduated from the Tajikistan Medical Institute and was sent to Kurgan-Tube to work as an oncologist. In 1973, he was moved to the Republican Clinical Oncological Dispensary in Dushanbe. Between 1975 and 1976, he trained at the residency program of the Oncology Department of the Tajikistan Medical Institute. In 1979, he successfully defended his PhD thesis “Lung Cancer” at the All-Union Oncological Scientific Center. Subsequently he became a DSc candidate at the center. In 1987, he defended his DSc dissertation “Nephroblastoma and neuroblastoma in children. Clinical and immunological Study”.

Professional experience

In 1977, Pr. Zikiryakhodjaev became a teaching assistant at the Oncology Department of the Tajikistan Medical Institute. In November of 1980, he became the head doctor of the Republican Oncological Dispensary. As a healthcare manager, he introduced significant changes into the structure of medical care in the Tajikistan Republic: he organized the Automated Management Systems Department, Children’s Oncological Department, immunological laboratory, implemented surgical techniques for operations on the esophagus, pancreas, liver and other thoracic and abdominal organs.

In 1984, Pr. Zikiryakhodjaev started teaching oncology at the Tajikistan Medical Institute.

Pr. Zikiryakhodjaev is a leading scientific organizer, highly qualified teacher, one of the initiators of the new concept of medical specialist training in Tajikistan, head oncologist of the Ministry of Healthcare. In 1992, he actively participated in reorganization of the Republican Society of Oncologists into the Anticancer Organization, president of which he was elected in 1993. He was the head editor of the standards for treatment of malignant tumors published in 2008.

Years of work at the Clinical Center of the Oncological Scientific Center of the Tajikistan Republic hold a special place in Pr. Zikiryakhodjaev’s life. He is the founder of the Republican Oncological Scientific Center which was reorganized from the Republican Clinical Center for Oncology. In September of 2006, he became the president of the center.

In October of 2010, he supervised the VI Congress of Oncologists of the CIS countries and Eurasia in Dushanbe.

Publications

Pr. Zikiryakhodjaev is a member of editorial boards of the Problems in Oncology (Russia), Tumors of Soft Tissues and Skin (Russia) journals. He has authored more than 400 publications on various aspects of clinical oncology. He has authored a textbook on oncology (1994), 12 monographs on problems in clinical oncology. He has supervised 12 DSc and 35 PhD dissertations.

Membership in professional medical organizations

In 1994, Pr. Zikiryakhodjaev was elected a member of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) and honorary academician of the International Academic Society (headquarters in New York) in 1998.

Awards

In 2009, Nomination Committee of the European Assembly awarded Pr. Zikiryakhodjaev an international award “Unified Europe” for his personal contribution into development of integration processes in healthcare.
