Education
In 1989, Pr. Vyrva graduated with honors from the Faculty of Medical Practice of the Kharkov Medical Institute. In 1997, he successfully defended his PhD dissertation “Purulent and necrotic complications in injuries of the ankle joint”, in 2013 – his DSc dissertation “Modular individualized endoprostheses in treatment of patients with malignant tumors of the limbs.”
Professional experience
During his studies at the Kharkov Medical Institute, Pr. Vyrva worked as a plaster technician and nurse at the Urgent Traumatology Division of the Emergency Hospital in Kharkov. In 1989, he started working at the M.I. Sitenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology. In 1997, he became the head physician of the institute, in 2001 – deputy director of science and medical practice. In 2014, he received the title of Professor.
Pr. Vyrva has been supervising the Division of Bone Pathology of the M.I. Sitenko Institute of Spine and Joint Pathology for 20 years. He combines scientific studies, medical practice, organizational work and teaching as a professor of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics at the Kharkov Medical Institute. He has performed more than 9,000 operations, many of which for the first time in the Ukraine, developed original constructions for modular tumor endoprostheses.
Due to his initiative, Ukraine has restored the field of biological reconstructive interventions for substitution of bone and joint defects of various causes with structural allotransplants in combination with bone autoplastic surgery, implemented a system of two-step surgical treatment of infectious complications of joint endoprostheses using metallic and cement spacers, developed and implemented a system of combination treatment of malignant tumors of the skeleton with a focus of organ-sparing operative interventions.

Pr. Vyrva has authored more than 250 scientific publications, 36 certificates of authorship and patents, co-authored 4 monographs.

Pr. Vyrva is a national representative of the Ukraine in International Society of Limb Salvage (ISOLS), member of the board of the European Musculo-Skeletal Oncology Society (EMSOS), member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie (SICOT), the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS), German Ukrainian Russian Orthopedic Society, Ukrainian Association of Orthpedic Surgeons, Kharkov Medical Scientific Society, Kharkov Scientific Orthopedic Society.
Awards
In 2007, Pr. Vyrva became the Honored Doctor of the Ukraine. In 2008, Pr. Vyrva received the Order of Saint Agapit of Pechersk 3rd class. In 2014 he became a laureate of the EMSOS award in the Best Innovation Study nomination at the European congress in Vienna. In 2015, he received For Courage and Mercy decoration. For his scientific and practical achievements in orthopedic oncology and endoprosthesis, he was awarded Certificates of Merit from the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukraine, Ministry of Health of the Ukraine, Ukrainian National Academy of Medical Sciences, as well as certificates from regional and Kharkov city administrations. In 2019, he received the Order of Saint Panteleimon in the Innovator of Healthcare nomination from the Regional Council of Merit of the Kharkov Region.
