Education
In 1985, Dr. Sokolovskiy graduated from the Tomsk Medical Institute. Between 1985 and 1987, he trained at the Division of General Oncology at the Research Institute of Clinical Oncology of the N.N. Blokhin Russian Oncological Research Center as a clinical resident and in 1987–1990 he studied there as a PhD student. In 1990, he successfully defended his PhD thesis “Combination preoperative diagnosis of soft tissue tumors”, in 1999 – his DSc dissertation “Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of the bone.” Dr. Sokolovskiy trained at the HELIOS ENDO-Klinik Hamburg (Hamburg, Germany) in orthopedics in 2014, and traumatology and orthopedics at the Magdeburg University Clinic in 2013.
Professional experience
Dr. Sokolovskiy professional career is associated with the Scientific Research Institute of Clinical Oncology of the N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology where he became a junior researcher in 1991 at the Surgical Department No. 1 of tumors of the musculoskeletal system. In 1993, he became a researcher; in 1996, a senior researcher. Since 2000, he serves as a leading researcher at the Surgical Department No. 1 of tumors of the musculoskeletal system of the Scientific Research Institute of Clinical Oncology of the N.N. Blokhin National Medical Research Center of Oncology.
Scientific interests
Dr. Sokolovskiy’s scientific interests include sarcomas of the bones, soft tissues, skin tumors; high-tech personalized treatment of primary and metastatic tumors of the skeleton; endoprosthesis of the major bones and joints including in rare anatomical locations; revision (repeat) endoprosthesis (due to aseptic instability, endoprosthesis breakage, periprosthetic infection, recurrences in the bones and soft tissues).
Dr. Sokolovskiy studies and works on primary malignant, benign and metastatic tumors of the bones, soft tissues; oncological endoprosthesis; virtual 3D technologies and computer modeling; development of complex modular individual endoprosthesis systems. Dr. Sokolovskiy also develops strategies for increasing lifetime of endoprosthesis use taking into consideration personification, preoperative planning, individual selection of the implant in primary and revision surgeries, implements scientific and technological innovations.
Publications
Dr. Sokolovskiy has authored 154 publications in Russian and international scientific press including three monographs, one textbook. He has authored 6 efficiency suggestions. Under his supervision 7 PhD dissertations were defended, 2 are being currently conducted.
Memberships in professional medical organizations
Dr. Sokolovskiy is a member of the East European Sarcoma Group uniting specialists from Russia and other countries. He is a member of the editorial board of the Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcomas, Tumors of the Skin journal. Dr. Sokolovskiy is a member of the International Society of Limb Salvage (ISOLS), Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie (SICOT), European Musculo-Skeletal Oncology Society (EMSOS).
Awards
In 2015, Dr. Sokolovskiy received a title of the Honored Healthcare Worker of the Russian Federation.
