Education

In 1965, Pr. Amiraslanov was accepted to the Faculty of Medical Practice and Prevention of the N. Narimanov Azerbaijan Medical Institute. In 1971, he graduated with honors. In 1974, he became a PhD student at the All-Union Oncological Scientific Center in Moscow. In 1977, he successfully defended his PhD thesis “Rehabilitation of patients after surgery to treat malignant tumors of the lower extremities”. In 1984, he defended his DSc dissertation “Combination methods of treatment of patients with osteogenic sarcoma”.

Professional experience

As a student in 1969–1971, Pr. Amiraslanov worked as a registered nurse at the City Oncological Hospital in Baku. In 1974, he became a resident at the clinic, and later the head of the Surgical Department. Between 1992 and 2015, he served as the rector of the N. Narimanov Azerbaijan Medical Institute. Currently, he is the head of the Healthcare Committee of the Milli Meclis of the Azerbaijan Republic.

On July 18 of 2014, Pr. Amiraslanov was appointed a member of the Supervisory Board of the Knowledge Foundation under the President of the Azerbaijan Republic. On November 25 of 2015, he was elected the head of the Healthcare Committee of the Milli Meclis of the Azerbaijan Republic, and since July 29 of 2016 he serves as the head of the Azerbaijan National Committee on Bioethics, Science and Ethics of Technology UNESCO.

Scientific interests

Development and improvement of methods of treatment of malignant tumors of the musculoskeletal system, breast, and internal organs brought Pr. Amiraslanov international renown. In his clinic, technically difficult surgeries are successfully performed.

Publications

Pr. Amiraslanov has authored about 500 scientific publications including 18 monographs, 31 textbooks and guidelines, dozens of nonfiction articles. He has presented his scientific lectures on multiple congresses, symposiums, and conferences around the world. He has supervised 12 DSc and 44 PhD dissertations.

Membership in professional medical organizations

Pr. Amiraslanov is a member of the AO Trauma, European Society for Musculoskeletal Oncology (EMSOS), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). He serves as an academician-secretary of the Division of Biological and Medical Sciences of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences. He is a member of the Polish Academy of Medical Sciences and an international member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.

Awards

During his work in Moscow, Pr. Amiraslanov received several medals of the USSR Exhibition of Economic Achievements. In 1985, he received the Award of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences named after N.N. Petrov for his original monograph “Development and implementation in clinical practice of methods of treatment of oncological patients”. Pr. Amiraslanov is a laureate of the USSR State Award for Science and Technology (1986). He is an Honored Scientist of Azerbaijan (1991).

In 2007, Pr. Amiraslanov was awarded the N.N. Blokhin Golden Medal, in 2009 an award “Intellect of the Nation” as part of the Leaders of XXI Century program. On April 30 of 2010, he was included in the Supervisory Board of the Foundation for Advancement of Science under the President of the Azerbaijan Republic, commission on State Awards of the Azerbaijan Republic, as well as the editorial board of the National Atlas of the Azerbaijan Republic. He was elected a member of the Coordination Board at the III Congress of the Azerbaijani of the World.
